bird food

last week we made some new bird feeders to put in garden .made them out of the wax juice cartons painted them etc .looked like little houses by the time we had made them .put little wood roofs on out of like lolly sticks .put seed in ,and not a bird has even come near them .we keep watching from kitchen but nothing ,i thought with all the snow and cold and not much food about that they would have gone mad for the food but not a tweet on my garden .young one very dissapointed though maybe leave it a bit longer i expect

Bird food,

You have just brought back memories of stringing together peanuts in the shell on a piece of cotton thread and hanging them from the apple trees in the the garden when I was a little girl. The Bluetits would come and hang from them to extract the nuts.

bird food

Queen Jean - what a lovely idea. Some times birds take a little while to investigate anything new and I'm sure they will soon find out that there is food available. Must admit, during this very cold weather less and less birds are around even though I have put out fat balls, seed and nuts. I believe maybe some of them don't survive the frosty nights as usually we have loads of varieties. Even the Pheasants haven't been seen for two days and they usually come for their seeds twice a day.

yes think your right dottie the fact that the birds needed to get used to the bird feeders we made ,and now the odd bird starting to come and investigate the food .its funny cos the dog sits at foot of tree base just waiting for a fat ball to drop off the tree and she comes running in with it and hides under the table with it in her mouth ,then she will dodge us and run upstairs to hide it ,no wonder birds not been coming so much too with her waiting around .and she only a small patterdale dog ,but she faster than me lol
