Runner beans by Tuesday!

I paid £1 in Sainsbugs for 225 gms of UK runner beans today so I'm delighted to see that we'll be picking our own from the garden by Tuesday. Monty Don says in today's Mail magazine that the cool summer could inhibit the crop but we've got a good one coming.

Courgettes, spinach, mange tout and tomatoes are also doing really well.

Runner Beans

I am so chuffed with our runners.

we have 2 varieties, white lady and streamline.

we have been cropping daily for 3 weeks now - much to our surprise as for much of the time the soil where they are has been so waterlogged, then stripped bare by horrednous wind, constant battle with the slugs and snails too.

I have 24 "good" portions for 2, in the freezer, i have given away 2 carrier bags worth to neighbours and family.

have had trouble with our french beans - our neighbours plants are depleted already - i picked our first bunch today (a good handful).

and my tom's well what can i say about them - this is the first year we do not have a greenhouse, and they have taken such a battering with the elements. I have a few small toms coming - but they will be very late this year, probably tough skinned too, but i am still hopeful.

but well done Kilmory - its so exciting raisin your own, then reaping what you sow.
