Painting your trees

Do you bother about painting your fruit trees,
i have been told you can use any old paint (paint over here is really expensive) also been told we can buy special stuff from the garden centre's over here.

Question is , is it really worth it??

Sue, are you talking about young trees? Believe it or not, painting the trunks of young trees is to protect them from sun burn. It stops the bark from blistering. You need a mixture of 50% white latex paint and 50% water.

Hi Honey, we only have one young tree, bit chewed up from the donkey, but all the other trees look quite old.
I was told it was to stop the insect eating the fruit??????????????

Cherry trees are full of fruit,
read somewhere it is a good year for trees due to all the rain we have had.

Protecting against insects isn't done with paint... that's a different story. Some people put sticky bands around the trunk to stop insects from crawling up the trunks (they get stuck on the grease bands. This should be done in the autumn.

someone asked about this last year i think it was.

it is for both reasons stoppign bark getting to blistered by searing heat - and to detract wasps and ants and other fruit eating monsters.
