Cuckoo

The Cuckoo has been heard this week in my part of Monmouthshire....seems very early.

Cuckoo

That's very early I would say, Dottie. I hope I hear one some time during the Spring but there don't seem to be so many around now, certainly here in Sussex. Used to hear them continuously when I was growing up in Essex.

Cuckoo

When I was a child the village postman could imitate a cuckoo wonderfully well. A local farmer used to put his cows out when he heard the cuckoo. One year the cows had a nasty shock when they found themselves knee-deep in snow.

Can your postman imitate a cuckoo, Dottie May?

Cuckoo

Ha ha Welsh Cookie. I don't see him long enough to ask as he is always running delivering the post. When I went to my Painting Class one of the members, who lives in the next village, said he had heard it so maybe it's not the Postman after all..

Postmen

Have you noticed how many of the young ones wear shorts, even when it's freezing!

cuckoo to postmen

we have one proper regular postman and then his "locum" both of who wear shorts all year round and both hardly wear a coat either, occassionally will see them in a fleece, and they are both in their 60's.

postmen in shorts

some of the postmen round our way wear long shorts if you know what I mean. Luckily they are young men so thay don't look too bad in them :o) we haven't got any old ones I think they get put in the vans as their legs are probably worn out with all that walking.
