Tulip Bulbs

Yesterday I was given a large bag of Tulip bulbs. Is it too late to plant them in tubs?

...... Dottie May, were you specifically asking me???????????????? (I haven't been at the cooking sherry honest!)

Seriously though I wouldn't think it is too late to plant them, I'm a bit of a "suck it and see" gardener so I would plant them and see what happens. I'm sure they'll be fine and if not then there's always next year!

Hi "Tubs"- Looking at the time you replied to my query (14.08) I bet you had a glass of sherry by your side!!! Ha ha. Many thanks for your comments - I think I will do what you suggest.

no it's not too late to plant them. I had some for Christmas a few years ago and they didn't get put in untill january, they flowered for many years. If you have ever watched Monty Don on Gardeners World he says you can plant them well into the jan/feb and they will be ok.

Tulips, Daffs & Hyacinths

"They are just opening their flowers, the stars are the hyacinths that we started to cut for the house last week.
They smell so good."

I so agree, mine are stars too. Some in the window box as we come in the back door just smell good enough to be expensive perfume. That along with the Daphne Odorata, in the garden, whose citrus/floral smell is just divine....Mmmmmm !!

We used to grow lots of Jasmine and loved the scent.
Since I've had asthma I find most strong perfumes make me cough really badly - especially jasmine and jonquils!!

I'm afraid I didn't get around to planting the tulip bulbs after all but will make sure I get them in at the appropriate time this year. As mentioned, the hyacinths are good at the moment, together with other Spring flowers....I love all our seasons but think Spring is my favourite.

oh this makes me so sad - my garden is still dead, dead, dead...100% brown still. Including the lawn.

the only thing happening is the wind has thrown all the dead lily stems around the lawn - all i've done so far in the garden this spring is pick them up!

the lilac will be the first bloom - the buds are ready to go.

but it's going to snow today...
