Round cake v loaf cake

When I bake cakes I usually make 8" round cakes using 225g marg, sugar and flour, with 4 eggs. Sometimes though I fancy a loaf shaped cake - but can I use the same mixture and put in a loaf tin instead? If so, what size tin would be best and would the cooking time need to differ?

Hello Country Baker,

My Delia online loaf tin (which is a 1lb Sliverwood tin or the same as a traditional 2lb loaf tin) has a volume of about 1L and my 8 inch cake tin has a volume of about 2L.

But my guess is that a 3 egg mixture would work in a 1L capacity tin.
