Pastry

I'd love to make a raised pie with hot water crust pastry but cannot use lard as I shall be feeding both Muslim and Jewish family members, is there a reliable substitute for lard?
I need a good, tried and tested method for making a hot water pastry without lard please. Any ideas?
Thanks

For Khansana

Hello Khansana,

I would use butter but I haven’t got a tried and tested recipe.

Best wishes

Yummy

Hot water crust pastry

You can use butter, or a white shortening such as Trex, White Flora or Cookeen, which are a vegetarian substitue for lard.
Obviously the butter would give a better taste (imo)
