What starter ?

I'm entertaining French friends next weekend and am making a traditional English steak and ale pie, and a traditional sherry trifle, BUT I don't know what to make as a starter...... Please help!.........

Delia's fruit vinegarette recipe

In my very old Delia's complete cookery course there is a strange but delicious recipe for a starter that can be made in advance that has fruit, mint and vinegarette which makes a lovely light and unusual starter! Too late for the person posting but maybe nice to give it a try for future?
