Oven thermometer

Not sure if you can please advise me on this. I wasn't sure if my oven temperature was true to the dial as everything takes longer to cook than recipes suggest. I purchased oven thermometer, put oven on. When oven was at 200 I put the cake in as I knew temp would drop, turned down to number 3 for 170 ( Delia's lemon drizzle cake ) and the temperature has continued to plummet. It has been in oven for 30 mins now and the temp has not got above 135 on the thermometer, although the cake looks like it is cooking, albeit it won't be ready in 40 mins. I understand that the cake will absorb heat to cook, but should the oven be back at 170 quite quickly or am I thinking too much into this? Help appreciated. Many thanks Anna

Oven thermometer

Hello Anna,

I always pre-heat the oven to the given temperature. It sounds like you have a problem with your oven if it’s set to mark 3 and running at mark 1. It’s normal for an oven to fluctuate but not that much.

Perhaps you could you get your oven checked.

Did you keep the thermometer on the Centre shelf?

It will eventually cook but it may sink or be a bit heavy.

Fingers crossed.

Lindsey
