Jam from bottled fruit?

Hi, Can I make jam from some bottled greengages? Some bottles are as old as 6 years. As we haven't eaten them as fruit I thought it would be a good idea to make them into jam. Any hints/tips?
Thank you, Christine

Help - Jam makers

Hello Zebra,

You can make Jam from bottled fruit but I haven’t done myself.

You could Google for tips and recipes or perhaps some of our experienced Delia Online jam makers will dip in here and share their knowledge.

Best wishes

Jam

I assume that the greengages have been bottled in a sugar syrup, so this would reduce the amount of sugar that you need to use.
You will not need all the syrup.
This is what I would do.
Drain the fruit overnight reserving some of the sugar syrup.
Weigh the fruit.
For every 3 pounds of fruit , use 1/2 pt of syrup , & just 9 or 10 ounces of sugar for each pound of fruit .
Just cook as normal
The fruit will not retain any shape as it will have softened in the jars.
I am assuming that the fruit had been bottled in sugar syrup .

Syrup

Hello Anastasia,
Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, they were bottled in syrup - as time went by I used a weaker syrup as we were finding it too sickly. However I shall take your suggested measures and see how I get on. It'll have to wait till after New Year but I will come back to the forum with my results.
Thank you once again.
