Button onions

In Delia's "Coq au Vin" recipe she says to us "button onions" - where would I buy these? I have looked around. Or could I use shallots or a jar of small pickled onions? Thanks

Pickling or button onions are in the greengrocers now. Buy a kilo or so, they'll keep in a cool place for ages.

Shallots

Hello Marion,

We like to use shallots when we make this recipe now.

Best wishes

I use shallots all the time as I like them cooked for ages in a pan of butter and oil until they caramelise. They are gorgeous in casseroles or as a vegetable on their own. You can also buy banana shallots which are long and oval - they taste the same but are bigger.
