Christmas Turkey!

A silly question but I am curious. If i were to roast two medium turkeys next to each other, i assume i'd have to increase the cooking time somewhat but not sure by how much? If, say two turkeys were same size, how much longer to cook two than one? I have cooking times for one turkey per lb. I find lifting a very large turkey in a roasting pan a bit dodgy and my roasting pan isn't quite large enough.

Hello Tracey,

I need some more details to give you an answer for this question please.

Do you have a really wide oven? Will you have a gap between the roasting tins or will the thighs of the 2 birds be touching?

What will the size of the birds be, what cooking temperature and time do you do?

Many thanks

Lindsey

Christmas Turkey!

thx Lindsay! Sorry yes.
Narrow oven sadly. Two 7-8 lb turkeys right next to each other in same roasting tin. 200 centigrade in fan oven. Usually cook 20-25 mins per lb plus 20 mins. Thank you !

Christmas Turkey

Hello again Tracey,

I would give them for the same time as you normally do for a 14 – 16lb bird.

Perhaps the first time you do it start them earlier that you would normally because if they do need some more cooking time it won’t spoil your preferred dining time and turkey always benefits from a good resting time anyway.

Best wishes

Lindsey
