Food additives

Is there is any way of prolonging shelf life for products like cakes & biscuits but using chemical free additives?

Food additives

Hello kaytee,

We freeze most cakes and biscuits. Often we make a cake or a batch of biscuits and freeze the rest. Freezing cakes in individual wrapped portions is useful.
We have not used or come across any chemical free additives that can be used for baking at home. I think if they did exist we would still choose to freeze them.

Best wishes

Hi Lindsay - thanks for the good advice. I make biscuits for friends at the moment but am thinking of expanding into selling wholesale so I was asking more from the point of view of making a longer shelf life for my products. That might make it easier to sell into retail outlets. A the moment I'm only comfortable with saying 'Best before' a week after baking.
