Jam like treacle

Hello,
I tried Delia's Dark Chunky Marmalade (Winter collection book), my Mum a mostly non-cook, had written Very Good recipe well worth making, so I thought I would have a go.
Unfortunately the end result had the consistency of thick treacle and not a 'marmalade'. I wonder if this is because I used preserving sugar rather than granulated?
I would appreciate advice,
Thanks
Claire

how to salvage.

Yes Welshcooke is right , it has been over boiled.
What I would do is empty all the marmalade back into the pan, add the juice of an orange for every 3 jars .
Bring back to the boil , & as soon as it is boiling remove from the heat.
Do not let it boil more than 10 seconds.
You will need to sterilise the jars & lids again.

It is nothing to do with preserving sugar , just left it on the heat for too long , but this way the taste will not be affected at all.

Thanks everyone.
I've bought a jam thermometer and I hope this will take the guesswork out of it. I will give the recipe another try. I'll file the advice to rescue over cooked marmalade in case I need it in future. It tasted fine.
Thanks again

Same experience

I had this problem with this recipe and I reduced the cooking time for the second batch and it still happened! Thanks for the rescue information.
