CHOCOLATE BEER CAKE ICING

Can you help?
I've tried twice now to make the icing for this cake - all is well until I add icing sugar after allowing to cool for about 10 mins. The icing becomes a thick matt paste that I can barely spread onto the cake - tastes ok but doesn't look great. Any ideas where I am going wrong? Grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks

Chocolate Beer Cake Icing

Hello Jackalls,

Don’t wait so long before you add the icing sugar.

Just leave it to cool a little after you add the butter. Once you have added the icing sugar, make the filling with the walnuts. This will probably be ready to fill the cake straight away.

By this time your icing will probably be ready to spread on top. (To check spread a little on the inside edge of the mixing bowl and if it just stays in place it should be good to spread.)

Best wishes
