Classic Christmas Cake - Treacle?

Haven't a clue what galangal is, or need to know what to use if you can't buy creme fraiche locally? We're sure our knowledgeable members will be able to point you in the right direction...

Classic Christmas Cake - Treacle?

Hello all,

I'm going to have a go at a lifetime ambition of making Delia's famous Christmas Cake, but here in France, treacle is near impossible to find!!!

Is there a more common replacement (honey/toffee sauce/not Golden syrup that doesn't exist either here!!!) or can I get away with not using it at all?

Thanks so much in advance

Treacle in France

can you get molasses? That's what i use here.

One of our French members will spot this i'm sure...

.

Treacle

Leave it out. It's such a tiny amount that it will make virtually no difference.

That said, tablespoon of really dark sugar would add a bit of colour and flavour if you can get that.
