Artichoke Cream??!!

Haven't a clue what galangal is, or need to know what to use if you can't buy creme fraiche locally? We're sure our knowledgeable members will be able to point you in the right direction...

Artichoke Cream??!!

I am in receipt of a parcel from a wine merchant in Italy, which contains items in addition to the wine. One of these is "Artichoke Cream". I am at a complete loss and cannot find help to advise me what I might use it with or on what dish, cooked or otherwise.

Please help.

Google above for pics and ideas. The label should tell you what's in it. Sounds like artichoke sauce, and the search will suggest ways of using it, eg with pasta.

There is an Italian aperitif called Cynar which uses artichokes or cordoons in its flavouring. I have to say that my first experience of this did not persuade me to try it again! I found it pretty disgusting and the barman told me it was looked on as medicinal and "good for you". Yes, well!

Could your Artichoke cream have anything o do with this. (I am trying to avoid a horrid mental image of a sort of Italian artichoke Baileys!)

"Cynar can be drunk as either an aperitif (generally over ice), or as a cocktail (mixed with soda water and lemon or orange slice, or with cola, tonic water, or bitter lemon soda). Europeans often mix it with orange juice, especially in Switzerland where Cynar and orange juice is a very popular combination. A variation of the Negroni cocktail uses Cynar in place of Campari. Because of its artichoke component, Cynar is also regarded as a digestive."

but to be honest I wouldn't bother.
