wimberries

They have a very short season and I think that generally supermarkets don't stock them because they are so perishable. Around here the local butcher seems to have cornered the market and is selling home-made pies!

Your best bet is to pester your local independent greengrocer. You may find them called whinberries, wimberries or bilberries. They are related to but different from blueberries (and imo they taste better than blueberries). I saw some wimberry bushes in a free nursery catalogue that came through the door

Wimberries

Near where I live you find them on mountains around July/August. We used to see youngsters selling them in the town but haven't seen that for a number of years. Loved Wimberry Tart and custard.
