shortcrust without lard?

Haven't a clue what galangal is, or need to know what to use if you can't buy creme fraiche locally? We're sure our knowledgeable members will be able to point you in the right direction...

shortcrust without lard?

Help
I'd really like to make "proper" mince pies this year but as I live in Turkey I can't get lard for shortcrust pastry.
Does anyone have any ideas on an alternative to lard?

No lard

I would use butter, if you can get it. Or maybe google an oil based pastry

I never use lard for sweet recipes, and no complaints yet. Butter or margarine works just as well.

However, you could look for trex or white flora (vegetarian alternatives to lard). Easy to find in the UK, but probably less so elsewhere.

Thank you

Wow-thanks for all your suggestions
I think I'll go for the "pate sucree"-found it and it looks fool proof
