American recipes!

Haven't a clue what galangal is, or need to know what to use if you can't buy creme fraiche locally? We're sure our knowledgeable members will be able to point you in the right direction...

American recipes!

Can someone advise please? I am cooking some American recipes, and the 'common language that divides us' is causing a little head scratching....

is 'all purpose' flour, plain flour?

is 'corn flour' the same thickening agent that we know?

What is corn meal?

'Applesauce' ... can I use the jars of apple sauce I have with pork?

'Beef broth' - is this beef stock or something different?

many thanks - I'm actually making biscuits for the dog and need to get it right!

Yes, AP flour is regular plain flour.

Corn flour is actually called corn starch in the US and it's the thickening agent used in Chinese food or for gravies.

Corn meal is ground dried corn- basically like polenta.

Applesauce is sold in jars here,
so use whatever applesauce you have. Since it's for the doggie, I'd probably use unsweetened if you can find it.

Beef broth is beef stock.

I hope your dog appreciates all the trouble you are going though!

You're welcome. I'm sure your little taste tester will be more than happy to help you dispose of any less than perfect biscuits.

Nanny Ogg's Dog Biscuits

I am sure Nanny Ogg had a recipe for wholemeal dog biscuits on her profile.
Sadly she is no longer with us, RIP Nanny. Perhaps Noreen can, somehow, get into her profile? I have tried all the usual ways, recipe, community etc. to no avail.

Hope the powers that be can.

Commercial stock can be very salty. I'd recommend making your own salt free stock, or using some hot water instead.

Dog biscuits

Yummy is quite right there is a recipe which was put up by Nanny Ogg who sadly is no longer with us. Funnily enough only this afternoon I was looking for some slo cooker recipes to pass on to a friend and I noticed the dog biscuit recipe.

It has made us realise that the search for members recipes is not perfect and we hope to rectify this, but in the meantime here is the link to the recipe

http://www.deliaonline.com/community/yourrecipes/maincourses/cheese-and-garlic-DOG-BISCUITS.html

If anyone needs it in the future you can search by just typing in the word 'dog' in the search box and in the drop down menu click 'Your Recipes' and you will find the recipe.

Hope this helps

He's probably over-fed or his diet is too rich!
