Hi,I am making Delias classic christmas cake and it calls for unsalted butter, how important is that as I have just realised I brought plain butter, any help greatly received,Thank you Suzanne.
I think that maybe 'plain butter' and 'unsalted butter' are the same thing. Not sure though. Maybe someone else knows better.Lind
Hi I've used this recipe loads of times both for Christmas & my daughter's wedding cake.I've used both salted and unsalted butter & every time I've had fantastic results - so use what you've got - it will be great!!
Hi Lind, thanks for replying.Regards Suzanne.
Hi Judy, Thanks for the info,I have gone ahead and made the cake and so far it looks and smells delicious. Regards Suzanne.Again thank you Lind and Judy.
Delia's Book says don't look at this cake for at least 4 hours. I have a fan oven and it was done in 2 hours 30at 140 oC. If I'd waited for four hours I'd have have had a nice piece of coal.
Trebor. I just made this cake yesterday. You should have had your oven set at 120°C for baking the cake as you should always lower the oven temperature by 20°C with a fan assisted oven (unless your oven manufacturer say differently). My cake took 4 hours 45 minutes and is just fine. chillie
