Heinz Tomato Frito

This is a set ingredient in Delia's 'Spanish Pork stew with potatoes & chorizo'.
I cannot find this product.
Heinz stated that it is in Morrisons & large Tesco's. No Morrisons near us - not in the nearest large Tesco.
If still cannot purchase - can anyone suggest an appropriate replacement to achieve the same result??

Any possible help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Strange.

Even the tiny little Tesco Metro near me stocks this!

You can make you own, or use passata instead.

passata is not the same

Frito means fried in spanish.

The tomatoes are fried first to sweeten the flavour - especially useful if the tomatoes are green or tasteless to begin with.
If you're using passata then fry it first to slightly thicken it and make it sweeter (don't add sugar it ruins a good tomato)

no extra oil needed

I've just read the recipe again and you don't really need to add any olive oil to the mix
Take a piece of your chorizo and fry it for a few mins - you will be shocked by how much fat comes out of it!

Heinz Frito

I haven't had any trouble buying Frito in Tesco or Waitrose, but I am sure you could substitute for a good passata. It's a lovely dish, enjoy

Tom Frito

I always get it in Tesco.Try asking them for it. It also contains onion and garlic although it is not overpowering.
I would try to get it if you can. I add it to lots of recipes as it really adds a richness you don't get with passata. x
