Barley kernels

Haven't a clue what galangal is, or need to know what to use if you can't buy creme fraiche locally? We're sure our knowledgeable members will be able to point you in the right direction...

Barley kernels

My grandmother used to make the most delicious milk pudding with barley kernels. She died recently and when I was clearing out her things I found a leaflet with various recipes I'd love to try. I can't find anyone locally who even knows what they are, never mind sells them. I can't find anything on-line either. Pearl barley is not the same, the kernels have a different texture and a wonderful nutty flavour. Is there anyone out there who can tell me where I can buy some yummy barley kernels please?

Re Barley kernels

I hope you get an educated reply on this,I don't know the answer myself but if it allows you to use your grandma's recipes, it will be grand. The answer is probably very simple and is just known these days by a different name - but not totally sure about that. Fingers crossed for educated replies!

Barley Kernals

Oops, sorry I'm not the educated one but wonder if you might find them in a health food shop.

Does this link give you more of a clue ?

Biggles!

Thanks for your message. Yes I've tried a big local health food shop and they have no idea what I'm talking about. But your link looks interesting. It's not exactly what I want but they mentioned barley grits (made from barley kernels) and they look as though they'll be worth trying. Thank you so much for that, I really appreciate it. Cheers!

My Pleasure Margie :0)

I wasn't sure if the flakes might be the thing. Perhaps if you could find a smaller, perhaps independent health food supplier they might have more of a clue.

Hope you manage to find your ingredients and I think there are quite a few of us here that will be very interested to learn how you do. Perhaps you could put a couple of the recipes on your profile, pretty please ?

Barley kernals should be found

in a home brew shop. Tony used to make beer ages ago and got them there.
