Buying ham

Haven't a clue what galangal is, or need to know what to use if you can't buy creme fraiche locally? We're sure our knowledgeable members will be able to point you in the right direction...

Buying ham

I want to roast a ham but can't find uncooked ham to buy, only gammon

Are the two interchangeable? Or where can I buy uncooked ham?

Many thanks

Buying ham

They're more or less interchangeable. Most people would agree that they are just different cuts of cured meat, but there's also a theory that ham is cured after being cut from the pig, and gammon before. Either way, treat both the same - soaking, boiling, then glazing, if that's your plan :)
