Buttercream

I was just interested to know what most people use when making buttercream, butter or margarine, or even white vegetable fat? I know it is meant to be "butter" cream but I find margarine offers equally good results and isn't quite as difficult to mix. I do find that when using margarine that slightly more icing sugar is needed though.

Butter for me, every time.

And if you add a little ice cold milk, a dessert spoonful at a time, alternated with the same quantity of boiling water & beaten in well, turns it into what my Gran called mock cream - worth a try if you've never had it!

I always use butter but soften it very slightly in the microwave first. Will give your "mock cream" a go QofPs.
