Favourite cake

We would love to hear what cakes you have made from Delia's Cakes.

I regularly make the Very Fruity Irish Tea Cake and the Double Lemon Drizzle Cake, Plain Scones a couple of times, Orange Curd and Butterfly Cakes (which I must do again). I really fancy trying Sachertorte so might have to get all I need for that this weekend.

What's are your favourites?

Cakes

If you literally mean favourite cakes from Delia's Cakes. I haven't got the book but I have looked at the Kindle version (I won't be able to buy it from the Amazon.uk) and it would have to be the sticky toffee cake, providing I could get all the ingredients! If not my second choice would be the double lemon drizzle cake because I can get all the ingredients for that.

I haven't got the latest cake book either, but my favourite Delia cake recipe is Coffee and Walnut.

gingerbreads

I love ginger, so the ginger breads and the stem ginger cake. Actually it would be the latter if I had to choose one.

In the USA, stem ginger in syrup isn't readily available, so I boil ordinary fresh ginger in a sugar syrup then let it sit in the refrigerator for a few days before using it. It also keeps.

I've made the Grated Chocolate & Almond Cake, the Semolina Shortbreads, the Lemon Griestorte, the Grasmere Shortbreads and the Traditional Dundee Cake. (I think the butter in this one should be 150g and not 50g). Have also made various others repeated from the other books eg Creole Cake, Classic Christmas Cake, Ultimate Carrot Cake, oh yes and from way back Whole Oat Crunchies! And of course, the Very Fruity Irish Tea Cake.

I love my Delias Cakes book . All of my baking is gluten free so of course I was delighted to see that more than 90% of the recipes can be made gluten free .

So far they have worked very well gluten free . I particularly love the Spiced Apple Muffins , the Spiced Apple and Cider Cake , the Chocolate Fruit and Nut Refrigerator cake , the Macaroons, Flapjacks , Dark Jamaican Gingerbread, and the Very Fruity Irish Teacake .

So hard to pick a favourite but I will be making the Jamaican gingerbread one again this weekend and I have done the Spiced Apple Muffins and Spiced Apple Cider cake a few times now !

I don't have Delia's new book of cakes but I do make some of her cakes from her other books. I made her carrot cake yesterday it's always good. I haven't had a lot of spare time to do any cooking, been busy in the garden and doing other things :0)

one of the best....

cakes ever is Delia's ultimate carrot cake. Every time I make it, everyone always asks for seconds. Another one, although I serve it as a dessert, is her sguigy chocolate log. I have put her new book on my "wish list". Cinnamon.

Carrot cake

I might give that one a try next time the addition of coconut and pecan nuts would make it extra special. I made the one from How to Cook book one and I didn't have any orange so I added a teaspoon of Valencian orange extract it worked well.

Gluten free cakes

Gravy Queen, do you notice much of a difference in the taste of cakes when they are gluten free?

No difference in taste , they taste great , with gluten free baking it's more texture and cakes can crumble . However I add just a half a teaspoon of xanthan gum to try and combat this and it usually works .
