Wholebean Instant Coffee

Today, for the first time, I've tried wholebean instant coffee (Kenco) as it was on special offer at Morrisons. I thought it was rather muddy and gritty, a bit like the old Cona machines with the glass stopper, if you used fine-ground coffee. Maybe there was more flavour but nowhere near as good as filter or cafetiere coffee.

What do other think?

I've not tried it Tomps. I do like good coffee (I don't drink tea so coffee has to be good). I think you can't beat a strong (black) filter coffee.

I tried this recently and must say it's an improvement on the usual instant though I suspect that could be all-in-the-mind! We don't often drink instant, preferring ground, but we have a couple of visitors who only ever want instant. Last week I saw Nescafe Azera, described on the label as 'Barista style instant' but haven't opened the container yet - probably the same as Millicano.

I tried the Azera coffee & although it tasted ok, I really don't like having a layer of sediment & sludge at the bottom - so if there's a choice between cafetiere coffee & that, or normal instant & that, I'd take either in preference to the sludgy variety.

I've tried the Azera, the Millicano and the Instinct - and of the 3 I far prefer the Instinct. It's not as good as a proper espresso, of course, but in the absence of a coffee machine (at my Dad's) it's a lot better than standard instant.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I'll try the Instinct. Often it is really inconvenient for us to make fresh. We've used Alta Rica for decades but I am getting tired of it.
