A Roast Dinner

When you have a Roast Dinner on your plate, what is the first thing you eat? I always start with a potato.

Roast Dinner

I've never given it a thought, Dottie but knowing me I leave the best (potatoes) until last!

roast dinner

I think the last roast dinner I had was Christmas Day and that's a while ago now. I would probably start with a bit of meat but I wouldn't leave the best till last because I may be too full to eat it.

Roast dinner

I am so fussy when I eat a roast dinner (apparently!). First, I don't like it all on the plate, the gravy and any yorkies have to be on the side, the meat has to be wafer thin. I cut all my potatoes in half, put salt on them. Then try a bit of meat. I add a tiny dribble of gravy to each potato as I eat them.

I always like the last mouthful to be meat and potato together!

That's a tricky one - whatever looks the most appealing - probably the meat to see if it is nice and tender - then a bit of everything else. Probably leave potatoes until last, especially if they are nice crisp roasties. (I'm particularly fond of hasselback potatoes at the moment as I have only just discovered them!)

Is it only a roast that you are fussy about ? strange if it is. I used to be very fussy about eating my food with my special fork we even took it on holiday with us. I finaly stopped using it when I got married and left it with Mum. I'd grown up by then.
I think maybe we all have some strange eating habits. Some we would like to share with others, some we wouldn't :o)

roast dinners.

i make people laugh at how i eat - apparently!??

but for a roast dinner, everything is eaten on its own.

i always eat the vegetables first, and its each type of vegetable ie, carrots, then cauliflower, then cabbage, then yorkshires or stuffing, then potatoes, meat last.

I think its a throw back to being told i had to clear my plate before pudding/leaving the table, so i found that eating the "worst" thing first - saving the best till last as a reward.

This is all very odd! There's some very strange eating practices going on! You're all weird. ;o)

I've never really thought about it to be honest. I suppose I'd probably have some cauli cheese first as I adore that and then the final mouthful would be a tiny bit of everything.

I eat the roast potatoes first because they are my favourite. I don't like gravy on it at all because it makes all the lovely crispy potatoes and yorkshires soggy.

gravy on your roast

I couldn't eat a roast without the gravy it would be too dry. Gravy made the proper way, meat juices, flour, vegetable water and maybe some gravy browing if needed is what makes a roast dinner and plenty of it.
But each to their own.

I love gravy :-)

I don't like gravy near my roasties though, they have to crispy and hot with salt on them and no sogginess!

I love my veg and meat with gravy on but I dont eat in any particular order.

I love mint sauce too slathered on lamb.
