Sunday lunch review group

There's a Facebook group called 'Brighton Sunday Roast Critics' - thought I'd tell you about it 'cos I am SO enjoying being a part of it, and other people might want to start something similar in their area.

The idea is that each week, people report back about their Sunday lunch experiences. In our particular case, there are set criteria for a venue to be eligible for inclusion - it must be a pub, it must be child and dog friendly, and it must serve a traditional Sunday roast. Having said that, people also report back about home cooked lunches, and venues that don't quite meet the criteria, but which are worth sharing with others. They're just not eligible for the annual award for the best roast venue.

We take (and post) pics of the food on offer, we rate each meal out of 10, and then at the end of the year, the venue with the most points is awarded a trophy :) It's a lot of fun - most of he time people do their own thing, but there's a planned group meet up in May for lunch followed by a game of rounders. I'm looking forward to it.

I've discovered several new places to eat by reading other people's reports, and it helps to be able to ask questions about things like disabled access, loos on the same floor etc.

Anyone else do anything like this?

Sounds like an excellent idea Darkginger. We really do need something like that in this area... We always struggle to know the best places to eat.

Trip Advisor is a help, but often the reviews aren't about the food... more about the badly mannered staff.

Even with their help it's very much trial and error though. You find a place, think it's good and then discover it's a lottery as to which chef they have on that weekend. We went to the same place two consecutive weeks and the contrast was unbelievable. One week we sussed it out and it was excellent, we must have got the chef, and the next week, we took some friends and it was dreadful, must have been the cleaner standing in!

Oh Ginger...this couldn't be more well timed.

do you know if your little Brighton group - has stretched its taste buds to saltdean? and the Saltdean Tavern?

And how can i find this group on FB?

Sam, re group

I've not seen Saltdean mentioned yet, but am sure there'll be people who've eaten there - worth asking. The link to the group is:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/238405856195794/

Or, if that doesn't work, do an FB search for Brighton Sunday Roast Critics, and you should find it - let me know if you have problems!

There are reviews on tripadvisor for the Saltdean tavern, Sam. You can google it and it comes up second or third. Just enter Saltdean tavern in the search field.

Are you planning to dine there?

Don't forget to take a camera with you Sam, and report back to the group! :) I'll be back in the UK for the Sunday after next, so will be posting more reviews, though not sure where we're planning to go yet!
