The Delia Smith Effect

Readers of the UK Daily Mail (you can access online free) will have read this morning's item about Heston's recipe for anchovy with roast lamb causing a sell-out in supermarkets. The Mail calls this the 'Delia Smith Effect'.

1. I'm not sure about anchovy with lamb. Lamb is a rich sweet meat with very subtle flavours...does anchovy work? If Delia (or even one of many other cooks) recommended it, I would try it...but Heston? Dunno.

2. Does it irritate and inconvenience you when you go into the store for a this or a that only to find that some celeb cook has included it in a recipe and they've sold out all over town?

anchovy with lamb

Have long used them together. Adds salt but no fishy taste. I also use anchovies in tomato sauces.

Anchovy and Lamb

Simon Hopkinson has a quite delicious recipe for lamb with anchovy - the anchovy melts into the lamb when cooking and imparts a wonderful flavour (not fishy at all) - there are loads of recipes for lamb using anchovy - my OH is very fond of lamb and agrees that it is a delicate flavour and shouldn't be "messed about with" (!) - but he likes it when I add anchovy.
