What's the next topic of "The Cookery School"? Guesses Please!

What do we think?

I'm not into baking, don't like cakes, but I do think that it was a good place to start!

Well, we are half way through the eight lessons so next term will obviously be on a different subject.

Any thoughts?

I think pastry might be a good one. Lesson one to show you how to make Delia's easy flaky pasty and also short crust, and then the other lessons showing you some brill things to make with it.

Sausage rolls - I mean, who does not like them! Vegetarian ones can be covered in the same lesson.

Quiche. The fillings are pretty endless so catering for meat eaters and vegetarians alike.

Pies - again, endless fillings

There is so much you can do when you know how to make a basic pastry, so I think a term on pastry would be a good idea.

Anyone got any other suggestions. Only for fun of course, I'm sure the team have already decided what is happening and more than likely its already been filmed.

Oh, and does anyone else think they are not Delia's hands! :) I'm not saying that is wrong in the slightest, it is Delia's advice, recipes, information etc, but if it were Delia herself, I'm sure we'd get a shot or two of her lovely face! :)

what next?

I think you my be right James. Pastry would be a good subject to demonstrate as it is a problem for many people, even I make up a batch of rubbish pastry sometimes so it helps to refresh the memory on how it should be done.
I think those hands belong to someone else.

Next stage for The Cookery School

Good thinking James but although personally I don't need to know about pastry (said with my smug look), I know of so many people who refuse to make further attempts at making it, claiming "I can't make it so won't try again."

Personally, I'll be pleased for Delia to get to the Savoury main meals.

Me too, thistle!

James, I think pastry is an excellent guess. Another great topic would be eggs and all the various egg dishes, in line with Delia's very early teachings on how to boil an egg.

Guesses for next topic

Hmmm.... It could be anything, the possibilities are endless. I'm thinking casseroles and other main courses.

What's Next?

I hope it is pastry - it is one of my bugbears - can't do it. If Delia could convey patience down the line that would help!! There are so many topics - but I think basic skills such as filleting fish, are important. (Not boning a chicken though - can't see the point).

next cookery school guesses

The Pastry idea, does sound very good - and a good lead on from baking, like most of you have said, so many possibilities.

Or, as Jampling mentioned, an egg theme, as Delia's "how to cook" range of books, the first books chapters are dealt with eggs.

Or, I was wondering about a meat theme, each lesson focusing on a different meat beef, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey and game. and then teaching the different cuts of meats and what each cut could be good for.

I hope its not pastry...not keen.A bit like you and cakes James.

I was hoping Ms Smith would go back to basics....Knife skills etc...

I would'nt mind learning how to handle a knife....I do get 'The fear' when holding a very sharp knife!

I would also like some simple dinner ideas...with a minimum of say 4 ingredients.Fish, I love fish(not salmon, boring),pork, beef, chicken. I hate recipes with a gazillion ingredients, that means you have to plan, and I never seem to have time to.

On Radio 5, she said it was'nt her hands on the vids, I reckon its Lindsey's hands(Noreen put us out of our curiosity!)
