Schools closed !!

90% of the schools in my area are closed , yet we have only a few inches of snow , 4 at the most.

Kids are now out playing in the snow , so why could they not go to school.

Our health & safety rules have gone too far , would any parent blame the school if their child fell & broke a bone on the school premises?..

The schools never closed back in the 60's did they? I can't remember a day I missed school because of snow.

I guess teachers didn't all have cars back then and so lived locally and walked into school. Now I think a shortage of teachers getting into school could also be the problem in some cases. The children may live locally, but the teachers don't. I can remember we just doubled up the classes. I'm sure there is some kind of rule that prevents that now.

We live down an ungritted lane and there are snow drifts across the lane and so I guess if I were a teacher and didn't have my 4 x 4, I would find it difficult to get into work today. We've had about 6 or 7 inches, but the wind has drifted the snow across the lane (we're high up on a ridge).

My son is fortunate and able to work from home and so has chosen not to battle into work today.

Have to agree with Honey, gone are the days when teachers lived locally. The head will not close a school until there is no other option.
They are all very aware of the disruption this causes to working parents.

Roads have to be really block with snow to have schools closed here.

They do stop the school buses as most have to drive through small country roads, so the parents who work either have to take time off to take the kids to school or the kids don't go.

In our little school Maya & Luca's teacher told them, " there is no excuse for not coming to school due to the snow. If i can make it, i(am sure your parents can walk down the road to school". He lives in the next town 20 drive away
