Beef

A Christmas ad. from a well known supermarket states their beef is hung for 14 days.
Good grief - is that a boast ?
My butchers beef is hung for 6 weeks and always superb.
What do you guys think ?

Beef!

Totally agree with you, Sandra.

14 days is not much of a boast. They may as well advertise it as "Not very much taste and a bit tough..."

I go for a minimum 28 days myself, but don't buy beef very much.

Well, it's a bit better than their normal practice whereby the meat is butchered straight after slaughter, packed immediately and left to 'mature' in cold store.

One of the reasons I never buy supermarket meat.

I look for a minimum of 21 days, myself. Got a great bargain this week in the Co-op - 1 big (premium, aged) fillet steak and 1 huge rump steak ditto, both on their sell by dates, reduced to £3 each - kept them in the fridge for a couple of days (I don't believe in sell by dates, much), had them this week, they were abso-blinkin-lutey gorgeous!
