Has anyone watched the start of the new series? I thought it incredible that some of them hadn't a clue about choux pastry! And the attempts at honeycomb were priceless though some made a jolly good effort. I'd have thought that if you applied for a programme called Masterchef you'd have at least a sound basic standard and furthermore that you'd present yourself in smart manner. Perhaps I'm just a fusspot.

I think you're right Elpe. This lot don't seem to be of the same calibre as in previous times. I love the programme though and adore Monica and Michel!

I totally agree about the calibre of this year's contestants. I'm sure nerves must play a big part but don't you just love it when on the skills test they say "Oh, I haven't made honeycomb for years" when you know full well that they means crikey, I've never made this in my life, where do I start!! Intersting though.

Isn't this the one that supposed to be the "professionals"?

I am enjoying it too....I love Monica, Gregs and Michels faces when things are obviously going wrong, or are a bit strange.

Yes it is "professionals" but its not like named branded chefs, like Ian Rankin or Gary Rhodes, its for cooks who are chefs in local pubs/restaurants/hotels etc.

My favourite so far, I think his name is Simon - who is a forager and butchers things like wild rabbits, and cooks as a private chef for parties.

But my favourites always change as the programme progresses.

Glad I watched tonight! Big improvement in the cooking skills and smarter dress but I was a bit surprised that Anna left.

I thoroughly enjoy Masterchef. A point to remember; anyone who gets paid for cooking/cheffing, is a 'professional'. Some of the younger contestants are likely a pub restaurant or small hotel employee who works on his own, so he/she can call themselves a Head Chef, lol. Yes, I like the forager. I'm able to boast, with some modesty, that during each series, I can earmark the winner from the first programme.
As for some of the looks on the three judges' faces, they are being directed and there's a lot of editing that happens before the final video.
