Opening Ceremony - Olympics

Did you watch it and what did you think? Took some organising I thought. Just wondered if the people in the Stadium knew what was going on and if they had a programme because without the commentary I don't think I would have been able to follow it. Because I was sleepy I went to bed at 11 pm so didn't see it all.

Opening Ceremony Olympic

Hi Dottie,
i told the kids they could watch, we only have french tv and it was advertised to start at 9 french time.
By 9.45 they were fed up as nothing had happened so went to bed, i got them back up when it started, not sure they understood what it was all about. Little one dropped off to sleep just before 11 and oldest put her self to bed at 12 o clock.

Have to say i didn't think it was that good, but then you only get to see what the french tv picked up. Hard to hear what was going on, with the french & english voices and then french tv translating it, was really difficult to listen to.

Will see if i can find replay on the pc just so the kids can watch the fireworks.

They just told me, only part they enjoyed was Mister Bean

Olympics opening

I've watched the whole thing twice now, once live, and then again today, to get the bits I missed last night. I loved it! The opening parts were the best, I think, loved the 'industrial revolution' bit - also the lighting of the flame, liked the way the petals all came together. Had to giggle at the Queen's cameo role - ma'am has a good sense of humour! Am currently watching the dressage live - probably my favourite event. Glad the weather's good for them.

Thought the first half was excellent. Thought the hymn (even though beautifully sung) a bit out of place, slowed all the excitement for a while.

I agree Darkginger. The highlight for me was James Bond and Her Majesty. I also liked Mr Bean and David Beckham. It was very well done on the whole and very entertaining, I thought the Olympic Cauldren was very clever and outstandingly beautiful. These ceremonies are always a bit long though.

Olympics.

Ddi not watch it, I view it all as a dreadful waste of money. I had a couple of glasses of red and a dvd on instead.

Much better!

Olympics Opening Ceremony

I wasn't going to watch it - as i am olympic'd out.

But i thought, i would as they were building it up to be better than Beijing and whose going to light the cauldron etc etc.

What a complete and utter waste of 4 hours time and money.

Telly tubby was quite right!

There was so much that i simply didn't "get", much of it made me want to cringe.

I loved the very beginning - thought the choirs superb and the orchestras - i do love "nimrod"
and the Mr Bean bit did have me in fits of giggles.

I was very disappointed with the lighting of the cauldron - so much hype was made out of who is going to light it. why the big secret???

right old winge bag aren't i. Beijing was definietly better.

We were away when it was on but I recorded it and we watched the whole thing yesterday. I thought it was fab, Danny Boyle did a fantastic job and managed to convey humour unlike Beijing.

I loved the petals that made up the cauldron and when the whole thing was light up it was amazing.

I enjoyed it on the whole, especially the bit with the Queen, I thought that was a nice touch, it was very British, however I really struggled when all the countries came out as it was so long! I was amazed at how many countries there were that I hadn't even heard of, let alone know where they are!

One of the benefits of watching a recording meant all those teams walked a bit faster!

We are 20th at the moment in list of medals. As usual the Press/TV etc nearly all get it wrong with their hype beforehand. I wish they would just say so and so can only do their best and not predict they are bound to get a gold or silver.

Totally agree with you Dottie. I'm not that interested in the Olympics themselves but what you say is applicable to any sports person. The press build them up and up saying they should win this or that. Don't they see that the person is under enough pressure without the media adding theirs. Then, of course, when they lose they get a kicking.
