Introduce yourself

I thought I would start this thread for everyone, old and new to the site to say hello. Whether you post regularly or are a lurker (in fact, especially if you are a lurker) tell us who you are.

Noreen, Board Moderator

I am...

Noreen Collins, and moderate the message board. I live in the centre of London, where we have a teeny weeny kitchen. We also have a house in south Norfolk with a good-sized kitchen, where I do as much cooking as I can, usually on weekends.

I suppose I am a bit of a lurker actually! I keep an eye on the boards to make sure everyone is behaving but don’t always get the time to join in. I love the site and in particular the forums, they are very friendly and can be very funny when someone starts a thread that goes off in a totally different tangent.

So – that’s who I am, now tell us who you are…

Hello

I'm Tubs, a friendly nickname that's stuck! I live in Oxfordshire but am lucky enough to have a holiday home in France where I spend a lot of time.
I love cooking from scratch although do not profess to be any good at it, plain and simple me!
I embrace the French way of life, in other words love the food and wine!

I love this site, any questions all answered by someone, somewhere, and if they don't know, will point you in the right direction.

Thanks to Noreen the forums are a nice friendly place to chat and exchange views and ideas. I'm a newbie compared to some here but just ask your first question and you won't look back!

Dottie May

Hello

I'm Dottie May - 80 years old, married for 60 years come the 21st of this month, no children, live in a beautiful area of South Wales. I log onto Delia every morning and have done so for quite a few years - it's my favourite site and I've made and met a number of cyber friends during that time. I used to cook very much from scratch but over the last few years have become rather lazy with such a selection of goodies available. I still like to bake cakes etc and do a roast once a week though. Newcomers, I think you will find us all very friendly and helpful - do join us.

Hello from me too!

Hiya :) I'm Jo, in my 50s, a Brit living in the west of Ireland with my husband, 2 dogs and 3 cats. Originally from Brighton, I've met up with a few Delia people on my trips 'home' - and they're all lovely!

I'm obsessed with cooking, and love trying new recipes. I'd say that 95% of what we eat is cooked from scratch (I have a weak spot for frozen scampi, though!), and I'm one of those who can bore you to death by going on about eating seasonally and using local ingredients, and avoiding additives and so on - whilst at the same time remaining a smoker and often drinking more than is good for me! No one said I had to be consistent :)

I love the Delia site - been here about 3 (?) years now - and I don't post half as often as people think I do - see the 'Top 20' list for my absence from it ;) I do, however, talk a lot!

My favourite foods are curry and lobster - though lobster curry seems like a waste of a lobster to me - far prefer them plain, with melted butter. I bake bread, make wine, sometimes keep chickens (will get back to that when the dogs are older) and attempt to grow veggies - but not at the same time as chicken keeping - the 2 don't seem to mix.

So that's hello from me!

Yummy

Hello from Yummy

Hi, I'm coming up to my 60th birthday in October and can't quite believe it!
Love cooking and have been with Delia since moving here to Brittany 10 yrs ago. I lurked for a while too before plucking up the courage to answer a question .... then it felt like I had been on here for ages.
Love the banter and help where I am able, also not afraid to ask for advice as I know it will be given freely from all the folks on here.
Made lots of cyber friends and met a couple of them, Angel and Linzechris, who were lovely and whom I felt I had known forever!

Like to cook jams & chutneys , they are are my passion, wander the fields picking all the wild fruit, it all ends up in a jar.
Love to walk , ride my bike , also love to read.
Also love baking , make my own bread , my butter , & yogurt..
One of my biggest weaknesses is a nice cup of tea in a china cup, tastes so much better out of china.
Am 65 years young , a full time Nana to two very handsome young men, & a very proud Mother to 2 strapping sons.

Say hello here!

I'm Shirley in real life. originally from Dorset, lived in Beds. for 26 years so far. We are lucky enough to go to Dorset regularly as we still have family down there.
Delia's CCC is one of the first cookery books given to me when I married...a great fan of Delia, what she says about cooking does for me.
I'm 53 and have a son and daughter in their 20's along with 2 dogs and an adopted bearded dragon, (which belongs to daughter but she can't take it where she is living at the moment), but it is a lovely reptile.....foodie.

Well done Noreen... this is an excellent idea to get people to come on and introduce themselves. I do hope this will encourage a few people who have been thinking of joining in to just do it.

I'm a very keen gardener. My passion is probably growing flowers and foliage first and foremost because I taught flower arranging. I can't walk past a hosta, iris or poppy without buying it. But I also enjoy growing our own vegetables. Because we had a young dog, last year we had to put a picket fence around the vegetables and that has given us freedom to grow just what we want. Last year we started off a new asparagus bed and also a new strawberry bed and this year we've added raspberries to our soft fruit.

I've been posting on DOL on and off since 2006 when the site was a very busy community. As a result, my repertoire improved considerably. Instead of turning out the same old thing that my mother did for years, I tried new things and still add something new every week. I prefer to cook from scratch but am occasionally lazy and have a night off (like tonight) and let Waitrose do it for me. We had one of their Dinner for Two deal meals... very good it was too.

I've also met a few Deliaites through being on here... Essex Girl (and husband), Daisy Chain, Just Jaki (and husband), Tilly, Impi, Merrie, Saffy, Saffy Senior, Flour Fairy (and husband), Gerry (and husband), Treehugger (and husband) and Treehugger's Dad (and lady friend). All, without exception, really lovely people.

Ooops, looks like I've chatted for too long again as usual.

Esther R

Hello

I think this is a brilliant thread and I have really enjoyed reading the comments. I live in Kent, I have one grown up son who is getting married next year. I live with my husband and Esther the cat. I love cooking and mostly cook from scratch but like most other people will sometimes have a ready meal. Often on Saturdays if we are not going out.

I first looked at the Delia site one Christmas a couple of years ago. I was looking for a recipe and started reading the forums. People seemed so nice I felt as if I knew them. I am really lucky to have met up with some Delia-ites and they are lovely and I am hoping to meet some more soon!

Say Hello!

Well, I don't really know where to start.

I've been here for quite a while, and I've met so many lovely people via this site.

I simply love to cook for people, nothing is more important than the fuel we give our bodies and nothing pleases me more than happy people after a good meal that I've cooked. I can't cook fancy stuff, but I can promise a good decent home cook meal.

I don't know what else to say!!!!

Many of you know me a little already xxxx

Wendy

Ciao from Sardinia!

Wendy here! Roger & retired to this beautiful island 10 years ago. I joined the site about that time because I can't get all the ingredients here and wanted alternatives.

I like reading detective novels and doing crosswords. I used to like walking the two dogs (Charlie & Bonnie)but they are rather a handful now as their combined weight is equal to mine. I help in the vineyard when I can. We have four cats, Reggie, Rosa, Elsa & Nero who rule the house and have us at their beckoned call!

I love my life here! And thank you all for you help and advice over the years.
