What the eye doesn't see..

Now I like to think that I keep the house clean and tidy apart from a little bit of dust.
But today I had need to put on my reading glasses for a job I was doing, removing lime scale from the taps.I wish I hadn't because on closer inspection what I saw was dust everywhere not dirt just a lot of dust.
If I hadn't looked for it I wouldn't have noticed it but I now know it's there so the only answer is a bucket of warm water and a cloth.
If you couldn't see it, would it bother you if others could.
Or should I go back to living in bliss and not bother? life is too short and all that.

Yes!

Dust

The thing about house work is that it only shows when you don't do it!

Hi VE

I have to sweep the floor every day because of the accumulation of cat & dog hair, grass, bits of grit & soil, etc. I'm always surprised at how much hair there is. But I don't dust every day. Life indeed is too short. Some wise person said to me don't bother with cleaning all the time it'll still be there long after you've gone. And Quentin Crisp said after four years dirty windows don't get any dirtier. Maybe the same could said for cleaning.

All well on the cat front, hope the same for your boy, VE.

Oh well maybe I shouldn't worry about it, I'll do something more useful with my time.

Wendy, would I be out of order if I blamed it on my cat, he does leave little piles of black hair on the carpets after grooming himself but the dust isn't his fault. Glad to hear all's well with you and your cats. My boy has hardly been out of the house this last week, he's not keen on the wind or rain.
I like cleaning windows, they are not a problem for me :o)

Your certainly not out of order for blaming your boy! I blame our cats for all the hair that's shed on the furniture, beds, floor and clothes!!

My lot are spending more time outdoors now that it's getting warmer!

Wendy have you read/heard these sayings?

Into every life a little cat hair must fall..anon

You're not properly dressed without cat hair.. or similar words.
I don't recall who said that but they must have liked cats.
I don't mind a bit of cat hair as long as I don't eat it. It's a bit like having a child, they can be sick all over you but we don't moan about it, same with cats and their hair.

Women after my own heart!

We need people coming to visit/stay so I "have" to clean those bits I usually ignore! There are times I wish I was like one of my SIL's who is a housework fanatic - perfect home, always (but doesn't make you feel uncomfortable in her home) BUT I'd rather be doing my various hobbies, which does include cooking.

Cleaning

No I haven't heard of those sayings, well worth worth remembering.

I know what it's like to get hairs in my mouth, goodness knows how they got in & I know all about clearing up vomit too.

Liz I have a friend who is very houseproud & when I visit I feel like the neighbour of Hyacinth Bucket who turned into a nervous wreck whenever she was invited for tea with her!

suits me fine !
Life is too short.
As long as kitchen and bathrooms are clean the rest can wait until I'm bored.

I wear glasses and agree that sometimes I've put them on and noticed more dust!
My friend once said to me that no one notices a clean house but everyone notices a dirty one! And I do think that is true to a point. BUT.... a house needs to be lived in to be comfortable and as long as it's not an absolute mess I don't think people notice too much. Life IS too short. Having said all that I still clean up when people come round or if people come to stay I really worry about how the house looks. I on the other hand never look at other peoples houses and look for dust or anything.Or judge people unless it is a real filthy tip! x

I think there are certain jobs in the house that only need doing occasionally and I usually do those before people come to stay or visit. I would do them periodically anyway. I have a friend whose house is always a bit of a tip (I don't think she reads this!) but there is always a warm welcome at her house and always a cup of tea. I think people have to do the amount of housework that feels right for them.

I think I may have been having a "what shall I worry about today day yesterday" to be honest my house is as clean or cleaner than most, just a little dusty here and there.
But what does it matter, dust doesn't kill you does it?
I have a box of those fluffy duster things, I might try them out again. Only trouble with using those is that you don't get the smell of the polish as when using a duster and a can of polish. Can't beat the smell of lavender or beeswax after dusting.
I shall just wear my glasses for reading in future because "what the eye doesn't see"
:o)
