I had Waitrose vanilla custard last week at my brother's house, blimey, it was delicious and easily passed for home made. I can see this appearing at the next dinner party!
I always make my own for trifle but buy the "luxury" supermarket pots for crumble, etc. when entertaining. I think they can be a bit gloopy though, even though the taste is OK, and prefer to serve the ready-made mixed half and half with Birds custard which I make with single cream instead of milk.
Waitrose's Seriously Creamy Madagascan Vanilla Custard is absolutely gorgeous....
