susbtitute for liquid glucose in truffle torte?

I have today discovered that I cannot buy liquid glucose anywhere to make Delia's truffle torte. Can anyone recommend a substitute. A health shop has given me agave syrup but I am a little bit unsure about using it.

liquid glucose

Your profile doesn't say where you live but I can buy this in Sainsbury's in the baking zone, either in blue tubes or in little clear Dr Oetker tubs. However, one of our members (think it could have been Yummy) suggests 5 tablespoons water and 5 teaspoons water dissolved in the microwave. I haven't actually tried it but if Yummy says it works, it will! And the Truffle Torte is to die for! Good luck!

liquid glucose substitute

Golden syrup is much nicer than liquid glucose/glucose syrup and I always use it instead in recipes.

Liquid Glucose Sub

"Silly me - should have said 5 tblspns water and 5 tspns caster sugar."

Yes, it was me,(Yummy) and I use equal measure of water and sugar, i.e. 5 tbsps of each, dissolve in the MW and use instead of the liquid glucose. Once dissolved, measure the appropriate amount as stated in the recipe (5TBsps)
I can't get it here either and it works perfectly.

I asked for this in my local pharmacy and it was she who suggested using the "simple syrup" it has worked for me every time and I would recommend it.

I love this dessert, one of my faves, it is so simple to make, yet so impressive and can be made ahead of time and also fabulous to freeze.

So glad you spotted this, Yummy - I was sure it was your substitute.

I have today bought some liquid glucose from Asda, it is by made by Silver Spoon and comes in a 140g tube.
Hope this helps

Liquid Glucose

I had the liquid glucose problem yesterday and could only get powder. I asked a research chemist friend of mine the ratio to make up with water and the solubility ratio (which I subsequently used) is 91gm powder to 100ml water.

On this basis I added 68.25gm powder to 75ml water, zapped it in the mw for 2 mins and it worked in the recipe fine. Torte was lovely!

substitute for glucose syrup

Hi everyone - can I use golden syrup or Yummy's alternative syrup to make fudge please? I've never made fudge and I'm somewhat scared of getting it wrong as there are so many versions on web and it looks tricky. I have bought whipping cream and a tin of evaporated milk as have seen recipes which use one or the other. I have golden castor sugar, vanilla essence and milk chocolate drops but no glucose syrup. So I'm looking for a substitute (and any recipes/tips for a nice simple fudge would be a bonus) Thanks everyone - this is for my fundraising for charity sales so it has to be good and no horrid additives.
