Heinz Tomato Frito

I would like to make the Chicken Cacciatora as feature in the March 2010 menu but cannot find this ingredient in our local Sainsburys (Walton on Thames) where I shop. Please could someone help by telling me where I can buy it nearby, i.e. East Molesey, Walton on Thames, Kingston on Thames, Hersham, etc. Many thanks.

Heinz tomato frito

Hi,
not sure where to buy it locally for you but our Tesco sells it so maybe if you have one near you they will sell it also.
This sauce is not a bit like passata it is much richer and also contains onion and garlic although it is very smooth, it is worth getting if you can and does create a lovely base to lots of sauces.

Re Tomato Frito

I recently purchased this in my local Tesco and made this recipe with it. It was for a Birthday Dinner and everyone really enjoyed it and so a great success. I had problems getting the bone in chicken breasts as suggested by Delia. Finally got them in Waitrose. Very easy to prepare in advance and just put in the oven. So go ahead and enjoy.

Heinz tomato frito

... isn't an essential ingredient. Substitute with passata if you can't find it, perhaps adding a pinch of mixed herbs.

Krishnamurti devised a recipe for frito but since the rehash of the site I've had trouble finding members recipes easily. x

Frito

I emailed Heinz to check, and they replied that they only supply this product to Morrisons and Tesco.

This does not mean that every branch stocks it, and I can't check as I will not shop in either of these stores.

Passata

I also just use passata and it works just fine.

Pizza topping

I like to use the specified commodity when I can, but since I can't always get it I have resorted to using a jar of Pizza topping instead of Heinz Frito. The one I use is Napolina Pizza Topping and it is about the same size jar so there is no waste. I have even used Asda's own brand pizza topping and this also works well. The recipe I use it for is the Spanish pork casserole which we all like, it is about the only recipe I make from that book.

Frito

Hi to all,

We’re still pushing on with the distribution of the Heinz Tomato Frito after the success of Delia’s programme & have been listening to the feedback on the forums regarding availability & postage costs.

We’ve recently signed an agreement with Amazon to make the product available through them – it means the cost is considerably less for the customer. It’s £12 for a pack of 12 jars & postage is included as part of Amazon’s service. The product went live today & stock is due to arrive with Amazon next week – if people are interested in purchasing it they can order it & Amazon will email them when it arrives in stock.

The product is also still available through our customer base of independent retailers – people are more than welcome to contact customer services on 01858 438000 or via our website for details of their local stockists.

Thanks for that I've just placed an order! I have made this myself but it is a product I really liked and is so convenient to use and is not at all like using passata or anything similar. It really has a lovely richness to it.
The price with free delivery was very good too.
