Fish pie - sinking potato- help!

Help. Why does my mash sink into my fish pie? I've tried leaving the mash to get cold but that doesn't help. I'm fed up. All help very gratefully received..... Thanks.

Fish pie

Maybe your fish mixture is to wet, do you have lots of sauce. Try making the fish mixture leaving it to go cold and then add the mash.

Fish pie.

I agree with Sue. When time allows, I make the filling in advance and chill it, also the potato. However, if its only us two at home, it does not relly matter!

that sinking feeling

try putting the potato round the edges of the filled dish in blobs then join them together to seal a border, then put the middle on. This stops the weight of the potato forcing the filling up.

s'funny my reply has disappeared!
Leaving mash to get cold makes it even heavier. It will alll still taste good though. You could sprinkle top with breadcrumbs/grated cheese if you want to protect the fishy mix from the heat.
