Freezing Apple PIES

I'm doing a little baking this evening: a few loaves and two apple pies.

I'll only be using one pie straight way and I'd like to freeze the other. Can I and how best to freeze.

Should I just part bake and freeze?
Should I cook completely and freeze?
Or should I just prepare the tart and freeze?

As always thanks for your advice

Hello Kevin,

I always freeze them fully baked.

Kind regards

I was just about to reply when I was beaten to the post! I was going to say you could do any of the ways you mentioned but the best way in my opinion, for what it's worth, is to freeze it uncooked. When baking it just give it a bit longer in the oven, bake it from frozen. That's what I do anyway, and have been doing for years.

Two replies. Kind of thought you could do it several ways.

With no disrespect to Nenna, (I was thinking her way myself) but I'll probably go with Lindsey as she's the Delia online food editor and I'm assuming has the technical as well as the practical experience.

But how would you reheat the pie. Just let it come back to room temperature on it's own?

May I respectfully suggest you don't publicize your email address on a forum to which everyman has access.

If you only want replies from Lindsey, it's best to ask on her own Forum not on one we can all answer.

Freezing Apple Pies

Hello Kevin,

I’m sure Nenna’s method works very well too.

As the frequently used quote says …. ‘None of us is as good as all of us’.

I defrost the cooked pie first then warm it through in the oven (about 20 minutes at 180 C) then let it stand for 5 minutes of so before serving.

Happy baking!

Welshcoookie thanks for spotting the email address I've dropped a line to Delia Online and ask them to remove it.

Don't know how this happened, I don't think it ever happened before

I do hope I didn't cause offence by pointing it out. That was not my intention.

Apple pie might be just the thing this weekend.
