Modern or Traditional French dishes

Hi all,

We’ll receive relatives from France next week; when they come to visit us each year, we prepare special French dishes but this week I was busy in decorating the house for the party, no idea of the menu. Yet, we are hesitating between modern and traditional dishes. What would be the best according to you?

FRENCH RECIPES

Why prepare French dishes if your guests are coming from France? Wouldn't it be much nicer to offer typical English food, There is plenty of choice on this site, both traditional and modern.

Traditional French dishes

Hi,

I would recommend you traditional one because I’ve been hearing that French people enjoy Traditional dishes, what about sausage and duck sauerkraut; the famous cake called “Flamiche” is also much appreciated.

French dishes

You’re right Rasdora but it is a kind of tradition, to demonstrate that though we are living in the UK we are still able to prepare French meal , yet when we tend to visit them (in France) they prepare English food, a great success! They will have time to enjoy as much as English food as they want, it is just for one day (our first meeting).

"Flamiche" it's the first time I hear it Emlyn, do you have recipe for it?

FRENCH RECIPES

I understand now, it sounds fun. I had never heard of Flamiche either so Googled it, it is a sort of leek flan. Sorry I can't be of any help but my knowledge of traditional French food is limited to say the least but good luck with your menu whatever you decide on.

Delices & Gourmandises

That really sounds good dulcie, how long have you been living in the UK? Flamiche or Flemiche is a kind of puff pastry; it is not popular in the Uk but you can make researches and get the recipe. In fact, it is my grandma’s favorite pastry at the time, I don’t know much about its ingredients but she used to order pastry online, maybe you can find at Delices & Gourmandises but it's up to you.

Delices & Gourmandises

Hi Dulcie,

If you think of ordering pastries and confectionary products at D&"233;lices & Gourmandises, I highly recommend you “the great package” you won’t be deceived. As far as gourmet products are concerned, Delices & Gourmandises terrine of foie gras is just amazing.

Delices & Gourmandises Cassoulet

"I’ve been living in the UK for 3 weeks now; I love Delices & Gourmandises pastries and gourmet products selection, thanks for recommendation Emlyn. "

You’re welcome dulcie, maybe 3 years instead of 3 weeks.By the way,I agree with Anne-Carole “the great package” is much more advantageous and good pricing. Talking about gourmet products and traditional dishes, you’d better order their Cassoulet, they use herbs de provence, the flavors were amazing and perfect taste.

Scam thread: Delices & Gourmandises scam ...

As a poster, I choose to comment on this thread, although I suspect that the DOL team cannot, for obvious reasons.

Can I just say that I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THIS THREAD IS A SET UP. I am sure that forumites will have also wondered about this thread & either chosen to ignore it, or may have held back like me, hoping this weird bunch of posters would just go away - we forumites aren't stupid - we can tell a set up when we read one!

For completeness however, to make it plain why I have a bee in my bonnet about this, I offer the following, hoping that this closes down this thread permanently:

Firstly, regular contributors on this site behave in a very different way to the 'people' who have posted on this thread. We contribute to many topics rather than just the one, haven't all just suddenly appeared in the last 12 months, we share personal info & have real personalities (& avatars), we clearly know a thing or two about food, baking & cooking, & nobody here would admit to BUYING ready made food, when they can make it using a Delia recipe! We also tend to draft things in a more spontaneous way - we don't appear as 'scripted' as those on this thread.

Secondly, but more importantly in my view, there is quite a lot of info on the web about Delises & Gourmandises, all of it quite damning (I found nothing positive, actually) - although I invite everyone to make their own mind up. To give you a flavour, I recommend that anyone interested in considering the point should Google the company name & can then consider what pops up, starting with:

1. A recent report from CPS Bedford, which provides details of a fraudster who targeted elderly people; one of his scams was mailing letters from D&G, offering prizes when you buy overpriced products. He then received their money but sent no 'prizes', despite chasers. He denied the offences, but was convicted after a trial. The D&G mail was one aspect of his conviction, but it appears that he has been guilty of a range of similar activities, preying on elderly people - unforgivable in my view. He awaits confiscation (money recovery) hearings for vast amounts of money.

2. There are numerous other references for D&G, via Google, dating over the last few years, referring to junk mail scams like those reported by CPS Bedford, where D&G offer so called prizes when you buy something - although the prizes don't turn up & the products have, in any event, been observed for sale in 99p shops & discount stores. Reports further indicate that D&G require a date of birth, which obviously then provides your age & this in turn, provides opportunity for fraud perpetrated on vulnerable (ie. targeting elderly) individuals. The Daily Mirror reported on scams by D&G in 2009 - this also makes interesting reading.

All in all, I am seriously dis-chuffed about probable scammers hijacking my favourite web site to promote, & in my view offer dodgy spin, about a mail order supplier that has apparently nothing to recommend it. Either way, can I invite Emlyn, Dulcie2, Carole-Ann to desist please, or to take your very strange topic elsewhere.

Apologies if I have overstepped the mark Nor, but this has been really bugging me & I wanted to make sure that anyone reading this thread would have an opportunity to see both sides ...! (Actually, I would like to see this thread taken down all together if at all possible!)

Scam thread

Hi Yummy,

Rasdora has definitely posted before, which is why I didn't include her, and her post was a 'normal' DOL helpful response, (not just promoting D&G like the others) but I haven't seen posts from the others before, to my knowledge.

I feel that we seem to be being taken for a ride with this thread, that's all - I don't personally rate the providence of the company based on what I have discovered, thus I find the thread which recommends it somewhat suspicious & wanted to balance it out. It also occurred to me that perceived 'support' from a respected website could be advantageous to unscrupulous individuals & could even be copied, to other websites, or advanced in support of D&G agents in some other way, thus providing further positive spin to draw more vulnerable people in.

Perhaps I'm just not very trusting (my grandparents were ripped off many years ago, chiefly because of their age) so this kind of thing bothers me - and I only wanted to make sure that others had the opportunity to make an informed judgement about D&G, based on more than just what was posted in this thread (periodically, to keep bringing the name back up, I believe). Perhaps it is also just a coincidence that this thread seems to have started during the currency of a criminal prosecution where the company name featured in the evidence). But these are just my personal views, at the end of the day ....
