Liquid Food Colouring!

Last night i made a victoria sponge and coloured one with yellow liquid food colouring and the other with pink liquid food colouring. I had to put quite a lot of liquid in to have the colour i wanted. The cakes turned out ok but the colour did not, it was the normal colour that a sponge is (pale yellow). Any ideas what went wrong? Should i have used colouring gel instead of liquid.

Thanks. x

not absolutely sure...

I'm not 100% sure but I vaguely remember reading once that liquid food colors don't actually have all that much dye in them, and for really vivid colors you must use paste colors.
