food for sleep

Hello everyone,
Has anyone tried or does anyone use diet to aid sleep? I have a child who has a sleep disorder and have started trying to give foods with tryptophan later in the day and stimulating foods that wake you up earlier.I'd like to hear from anyone who has some experience.
Also many thanks to Delia, several generations of our family have benefited from your work and it is generous of you to offer your expertise free online.

Inducing sleep

Hello there

I did read about 30-odd years ago that a lettuce sandwich at night helps as the milky stuff contains a component of what used to be called laudenum hence inducing sleep. It's probably been disproved by now but you could try googling it and see what happens. I shouldn't try it before googling it.

Regards

Foods to aid sleep

Hi again

I've just read an article about a young child with this disorder and the parents found out that half a banana helps tremendously and he has started to sleep through the night. It has also been suggested that wholemeal bread and peanut butter can help with tis problem

food for sleep

Hello Queazy Soporifix,

I too heard about the same thing Wendy talks about.

I heard Chris Evans chatting about the half banana suggestion on the radio this morning. He said that a lady had managed to get her little one to sleep by doing this and that it not only helped relax mussels but it also contains tryptophan. If you haven’t already seen it I think there is an online article in the Daily Mail.

Best wishes

Lindsey

Sleep disorder

Thanks Lindsey for your additional comments, I wasn't sure how much to mention. I think you have made it a lot clearer.

Thanks all for your suggestions. Unfortunately my daughter hates banana, but I have found a way to disguise it.

Disguising bananas

How about making a peanut butter and banana sandwich on brown bread, that way you get three hits in one! If further disguising is needed add raspberry jam, mmm!
