Bread

I have just started making my own bread by hand. Taste is great, but bread is very dense and not light. Please tell me what I do wrong.

Bread

Could be a number of things. Good strong flour is vital. The right yeast. Be very careful to follow the recipe exactly and weigh/measure carefully. Make sure dough has risen properly before you bake....

I use a breadmaker and get perfect results 95% of the time...I have only bought one loaf of shop bread in the last two years. For some, making bread by hand is a hobby, and that's great, for others it's therapeutic but all I want is decent bread hence the breadmaker.

Bread #2

I am sorry, i'm tryingout the Irish soda bread. The ones I recently got served in Ireland were light and cake like.
Thanks,

soda bread

I tried soda bread several times. Never got a decent rise, so I didn't persevere, went back to ordinary bread instead. Have you tried different recipes?
