Freezing cooked chicken

I have defrosted 4 chicken breasts but no-one is home for dinner! Can I cook the breasts and freeze?

If not, if I cook the breasts, how long will they keep in the fridge?

Cheers,

Amanda

Freezing cooked chicken

Hello Amanda,

Yes you can freeze the chicken that you have defrosted if you cook it.

Best wishes

Freezing cooked chicken

As Lyndsey ahs said, yes perfectly fine as long as you pre-cook the chicken and allow to cool first.

Once any meat has been defrosted, i treat it like "fresh meat" with keeping.

I often defrost chicken/beef mince planning to make something with it, then plans change - as long as it is cooked within 3 days of being kept in the fridge it will be fine.

Chicken and Other Poultry

Hello, I often, and I bet you do too, have lots of cooked turkey left over at Xmas. After the Boxing Day sandwiches, turkey does start to get boring! so I tend to slice it up, wrap it in packs of about 250 gm (8 oz to those of us over 30) and put in the freezer. When I want to make a meal out of it, I take it out, defrost it and make a curry or one or two of Delia's recipes where she uses left over chicken or turkey, and space out the meals so that they don't repeat too often.

I would caution that if you do have some of the meal left that you have used the meat you have defrosted in it I wouldn't freeze it. That could stretch the recycling a bit too far!
