Should compote set?

I made a cherry compote earlier today but it appears to have set. When I turned the jar upside down it didn't move!

Is this correct? I am not sure exactly how it is supposed to look.

Thank you

Amanda, doesn't that depend on whether you want it on bread/toast or to eat as a pudding?

Compote

It too serve under icecream with a chocolate sponge pudding. I don't know whether it should be set or not.

should a compote set

a compote is made with less sugar than jam, and should/will be runny. it could be your cherries where that much more riper than you originally thought.

Thank you Sam. I bought frozen cherries and defrosted, I think I may have over boiled the mixture.
