Currants ruin my fruit cake

I have found that if I buy currants from any of the major supermarkets they have tiny pips in them which make my cakes gritty and ruin them. Can anyone suggest which currants I should use

Currants

In my opinion currants are mean little things. I use sultanas instead.

Currants

Agree, I use sultanas instead of currants too. One can spend an age picking over currants to get those bits of stalks off and incidentally, I bet it's the bits of stalks that are making the currants feel gritty. You have to pick over currants.

Definitely agree with the other posts. Swop for sultanas. ,uh nicer. :-)

currants

Agree with everyone else. I buy them only for the garden birds as they don't need to be chopped.

currants

I think they are all much the same wherever you buy them. I only use them when making Delia's eccles cakes.
I must make some soon as they have always been one of my favourites.

Currants

I hate currants too, i never put them in anything, i just make up weight with sultana's or raisins or another dried fruit of my/the eaters liking.
