Cheap Diet Food

Why is Delia so painfully lacking in good CHEAP meals to cook if you are on a DIET ?
Exotic Fish, vegetables and fruit are NOT an option for a lot of us who need to loose wait.Come on, Delia, YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO BETTER !

Are you not able to concoct something with cheaper veg, fruit, etc? So many things one could make without using expensive ingredients.

Diet food

I thought the whole point of dieting was to cut out the rubbish and eat better quality food, but less of it.

Surely fish, vegetables and meat for carnivores are the basis of a good diet.

Fizzy drinks - any drinks - and pastries never did anybody any good. Nice though they can be.

cheap food to slim

Think starvation in parts of the 3rd World. All they eat is carbohydrates but not much of them because they can't afford it. You can lose weight on porridge or mealie meal equivalent,
rice, bread etc, provided you eat little of it.

Starvation

I'm not sure talking about starvation in this context is very helpful. Children and adults starve and die from many and various causes, not only lack of calories.

I would not advise anybody in this country to try and lose weight solely by eating carbs, nothing else and very little of them.

Sorry, but our site is hardly lacking in recipes that are economic and low fat.

You can read what Delia has to say about cooking and diets here

This recipe couldn't be any cheaper or low fat if it tried..

Neither could this...

I don't say it's advisable but it is possible. Dieting to slim is a luxury of the over-fed affluent West. Just how I feel!

Delia is not a dietician, nor does she profess to be. What Delia has done is to give people the tools (ie cooking knowledge) to devise healthy menus of their own. Let's be honest, you need to eat less and exercise more to lose weight, most of us need portion control rather than calorie control plus getting off our butts a bit more.

Well done Nor !
Could not believe this post.
Delia has never purported to be anything other than a cook, not a chef, not a nutritionist.
Anyone wishing to lose weight knows exactly what to do - eat less , move more. Not rocket science is it !

The main thing to leave out or considerably cut down on is butter. Eat pulses, for which there are many wonderful recipes about. Puses are high in fibre and nutritous. Butter and any fat is bad.

As usual the responses to my post have got on their high horses and missed the point - that's why most people don't bother to post.
All I'm asking is that each menu could show the calorific value - the Good Food Magazine always used to. This way, if you haven't got much time you can quickly see which meals to use and when.

Capital Letters

Capital letters do not indicating - they EMPHASIZE something ! OOps sorry I suppose exclamation marks are also not allowed. We are adults, not school children. And now I suppose this won't be "approved ".

But thats not what you asked at all. You did not mention calorie counts in your first post, all you did was have a go and were also incorrect. There are loads of Delia recipes suitable for those on a diet, and those on a budget.

Please read your OP again, as you are now asking for things you did not ask for originally.

My original post asked for Delia to do better - this site has enough people working for it. Or is it just the wealthy retired ones who sit reading this all day. Must go, work to do.
